As reports and footage continue to emerge of horrific government crackdowns on protesters in Iran – with current reporting indicating over 3,000 protesters have been killed – the question on everyone’s mind is where is this all going.
Earlier today, I had the privilege of hosting a live briefing with two leading Iran experts, who helped shed light on the status of the protests, how President Trump’s threats to intervene are being perceived inside Iran and the options currently available to the United States.
Nate Swanson is the director of the Iran Strategy Project at the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative. He has served as a senior advisor on Iran policy across multiple administrations, most recently serving as director for Iran at the National Security Council.
Negar Mortazavi is a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy and editor and host of The Iran Podcast. An award-winning journalist and commentator, Negar grew up in Iran and Germany and has covered Iranian affairs from exile for over a decade.
