I fail to understand how there can even be a “Phase Two” when there was no significant cessation of the genocide of the Palestinians. Declaring a ceasefire making sure it is actually enforced is insanity. The foxes are in the henhouse.
The possibility that Trump may seek to accrue so much power unfortunately sounds plausible, given his words and actions over the past year. He seems to be suffering from a severe case of megalomania. With regard to Israel, in addition to its abuse of Palestinians, it has mistreated the United States. Without our help, Israel would not be where it is today. After the October 7 attacks, the U.S. flooded Israel with sympathy and powerful weapons. Yet, its duly elected [by Israeli voters] government persistently scorns us. It used those weapons to bomb civilian infrastructure and human beings into rubble and starve babies to death. That didn't make only Israel look bad to the world, it made the U.S. look bad for actively enabling the destruction. Even the mildest of opposition to Israel's aggression by the Biden administration was met with Israeli fury. Unless and until the D.C. elites grow a spine and stop unconditionally showering Israel with destructive weapons and allowing it to dictate our foreign policy, there will never be peace in the Middle East.
Seems like a disaster to me. Here's what Ahmed Alkhatib says: "The Board of Peace in Gaza evolved from a brilliant idea for transformation that could have been the beginning of a new republic to a vanity project that'll ensure Hamas' survival & create a playfield for crony capitalism despite the Palestinian technocrats being well-intentioned" Netanyahu could have stopped the war earlier and sidelined Turkey and Qatar by pushing harder for a PA takeover. Now Gaza is split in 2 and Hamas hasn’t disarmed. This is on him (Netanyahu).
As an aside Baskin is not a neutral observer and I don’t trust the judgement of someone who questioned whether Bondi beach shooting was antisemitic.
